Terms of service
Version 1.0, effective 18 September 2026. These terms are written in plain language on purpose. The short version: use the service for real software projects, keep it legal, and we keep it free.
1. Who we are
RealFreeHosting ("we") provides free Git hosting on a self-managed GitLab instance and, optionally, paid servers ("Cloud"). Contact: support@realfreehosting.com. Company details are listed on invoices and on the privacy page.
2. Your account
- You need one account per person. Your username becomes your GitLab namespace. Keep your password and two-factor codes to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- You must be at least 16 years old, or have permission from a parent or guardian.
- We may refuse or close accounts that are used for abuse (section 5) or that were created with false information.
3. The free service
- Free accounts get up to 3 projects with 1.0 GB of storage each, issues, merge requests, wiki and a limited amount of CI on shared runners.
- Free hosting is provided "as is". We run backups and monitoring and we work hard to keep it up, but we do not promise a specific availability for free projects and we may change the limits with reasonable notice.
- Inactive projects are archived and may eventually be deleted as described in the fair use policy. You always receive a warning by e-mail first.
4. Paid Cloud servers
- A Cloud plan is a monthly subscription for a virtual server, billed in advance. Prices are shown including VAT for consumers and excluding VAT for businesses with a valid EU VAT number.
- You can cancel at any time. The server keeps running until the end of the paid period and is then destroyed together with its data. Export what you need before that date.
- If a payment fails, we notify you and stop the server after 7 days unless the payment is completed. Invoices are available in your account.
- Prices may change; we announce changes at least 30 days ahead. Changes never apply to a period you already paid for.
- Refunds: unused days of the current period are not refunded, except when the service was unavailable for more than 24 consecutive hours through our fault.
5. What is not allowed
You may not use the service to:
- break the law or infringe the rights of others (copyright, trademarks, privacy);
- distribute malware, run phishing, spam, scams or unauthorized scanning or attacks;
- mine cryptocurrency, run proxies, VPN exits, torrent seeding or other bandwidth-heavy services that are unrelated to your project;
- store content that is not source code or its assets in bulk (backups, media libraries, datasets) on the free tier;
- create many accounts, circumvent limits, or resell access.
We may suspend or remove content or accounts that violate these rules, immediately in urgent cases. Where possible we tell you why and give you the chance to export your data.
6. Your content
Your code stays yours. We only access it to run the service, to investigate abuse reports, or when required by law. Public projects are visible to everyone; private projects are visible to you and the people you invite.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (which is zero for free accounts). We are not liable for indirect damage such as lost profit or lost data. Keep your own copies of anything important; Git makes that easy.
8. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; substantial changes are announced by e-mail at least 30 days ahead. You can close your account at any time from the account page or by e-mail. On closure, your projects are deleted within 30 days and personal data as described in the privacy policy.
9. Law
Dutch law applies. Disputes are brought before the competent court in the Netherlands, unless mandatory consumer law says otherwise.
